Prediction of Sliding and Rocking of Rigid Bodies subject to seismic input using Fast Non-linear Analysis (FNA) formulation
Prediction of sliding and rocking of unanchored rigid bodies under seismic loading is performed in many ways. Most hand analysis and energy balanced approaches result in conservative solution. The objective was to develop a non-linear based computer analysis solution and benchmark using FNA formulation.
ENOVA was contracted to develop an accurate and computer based solution to this problem. The problem was modeled and solved using the FNA formulation of the general purpose program SAP2000 Non-linear. The solution was tested and benchmarked using a series of postulated dynamic problems for sliding, rocking, uplift and free-fall as well as trajectory prediction of unanchored rigid bodies.
