Seismic Margin Assessment of two water storage tanks

Objective:

To determine seismic margin associated with two water storage tanks, one steel and the other reinforced concrete in support of Fukushima mandated FLEX initiative.

Solution:

In support to Fukushima regulatory initiative, ENOVA was contracted to do a state-of-the-art seismic margin assessment of two water storage tanks. The tanks were both anchored. The steel tank was 46’ in diameter and 47’ in height. The concrete tank was 50’ in diameter and 58’ in height. High Confidence of Low Probability of Failure (HCLPF) estimates of seismic margins were calculated based on state-of-the-art seismic analytical techniques allowing for SSI effects.
